NATIONAL FACTS WEEK DRUG ALCOHOL

National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week -March 21st - 27th

Saving Lives & Protecting People

Substance abuse in the workplace can have far-reaching impacts that effect the organization. These effects are not just restricted to operational impacts. Effects of workplace substance abuse have very personal impacts to the employee, their co-workers, and those touched by the employee outside of the workplace. A strong Drug-Free Workplace policy and program provides both individuals struggling with substance abuse as well as their friends and co-workers with the resources to identify and address these issues.

Research into the effects of substance abuse has shown that employees who abuse drugs and alcohol have a significant increase in taking unexcused absences, being late for work, quitting or being fired within the first year of employment, be involved in a safety incident, and to file a workers’ compensation claim. Estimates of increased frequency of these examples range from 200% to 500% compared to other employees.
